About the Heart Manual

The Heart Manual programmes are clinically effective, evidence based self-management cardiac rehabilitation programmes:

Standard Twelve of the NHS National Service Framework for Coronary Artery Disease (NSF)1  says:

“NHS Trusts should put in place agreed protocols/systems of care so that, prior to leaving hospital, people … suffering from coronary artery disease have been invited to participate in a multidisciplinary programme of secondary prevention and cardiac rehabilitation. The aim of the programme will be to reduce their risk of subsequent cardiac problems and to promote their return to a full and normal life.”

The Heart Manual provides a one-step approach to meeting the standard set out in the NSF.

Heart Manual Programmes available are:

The Heart Manual  Post Myocardial Infarction Edition 2-11

The Heart Manual Revascularisation Edition 12

The Heart Manual, associated audiotapes, CDs, training materials, publicity materials and the contents of this website are the copyright of NHS Lothian.
