The Heart Manual Franchise

Train Facilitators in your own area

Facilitation of the Heart Manual by trained health care professionals working with patients and their carers is central to the Heart Manual approach to rehabilitation. Since 1992 more than 3,000 trainees have completed the two-day Facilitator Training Course.

Many NHS areas and districts throughout the UK have rolled out the Heart Manual as their main community-based cardiac rehabilitation programme, resulting in an ongoing need to train large numbers of facilitators. In response to requests to train facilitators locally, the Heart Manual has developed the Heart Manual Franchise. The Heart Manual Franchise is available to NHS authorities and trusts with a high-volume need for facilitator training. Franchisees are asked to sign an agreement including commitment to support local trainers and an undertaking to train facilitators and deliver the Heart Manual Programmes according to the prescribed standards.

Appropriately qualified and experienced facilitators nominated by franchisees will undertake a special two-day trainers' course in Edinburgh. The course is designed to give them the essential training skills and background to conduct facilitator training courses in their home areas. On successful completion, they will be licensed by the Heart Manual Board, Edinburgh to practise as facilitator trainers using methodologies and course materials supplied by the HM office.

The Heart Manual Training-for-Trainers Course is accredited by Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, for the award of 10 degree-level credits. (Scottish Qualification Credit Framework, Degree Level 9).

For enquiries about the Heart Manual Franchise or to book a place on the next Training-for-Trainers course, please e-mail Carol Glover in the Heart Manual Office Carol.glover@lpct.scot.nhs.uk
