Equal Opportunities

As resources allow, the Heart Manual Project is making provision for non-English speaking patients and those with visual impairments to get the benefits of the programme.

The Heart Manual is currently being adapted and transferred to DVD. This will include the option of 5 languages and, if possible, the inclusion of 'British sign language'. For more information on the DVD project click here.

In the meantime, whilst this project is underway, the two audiotapes which accompany the post MI Manual only are available in the following languages:

These can be supplied with copies of the Heart Manual at the standard prices shown on the current price list. Please specify languages and quantities in your order. The Heart Manual Book is not yet available in the UK in languages other than English, but for patients and/or carers without access to help with reading the book, we have prepared a short introductory leaflet to accompany the translations of the tapes in the above languages.

The information leaflets and translated tapes are available in sets of two, one for the patient and one for the carer, at a price of £8.50 per set (plus VAT where applicable). Please specify languages and quantities with your order.

The Heart Manual for patients with visual impairments

For patients with visual impairments, the Heart Manual is available as a Talking Book on CD or tape. For prices and availability, please contact the Heart Manual Office at

The Heart Manual team are currently planning explorative work in order to identify the best method/formats (e.g. DVD) for providing equity of care in rehabilitation and self-management programmes for minority groups with CHD in Scotland/UK.

The Heart Manual (Post MI Edition) developed supportive translated tapes and an abbreviated leaflet in 2002 as mentioned above, which offered support to Urdu, Punjabi and Bengali speakers. We are aware this is a very small portion of minority groups and very limited support and hope to extend this to a much wider population.
