What is the Heart Manual – Post MI Edition
The Heart Manual – Post MI Edition is a rehabilitation programme designed for patients recovering from acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). Shown to be clinically effective in repeated studies, the Heart Manual is the UK‘s leading home-based cardiac rehabilitation programme, providing a standardised approach for more than 250 major NHS users across the UK, and contributing to the recovery of more than 10,000 heart attack patients every year. The Heart Manual is suitable as a stand-alone rehabilitation programme or can be integrated with existing hospital or primary care based programmes. A recent study 1 has highlighted the contribution of The Heart Manual to achieving targets set out in the NHS National Service Framework for Coronary Artery Disease (NSF) for cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention. 1 Use of the Manual is recommended not only in the NSF but also in the Scottish SIGN Guidelines for Cardiac Rehabilitation 2 , the Irish Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation Guidelines 3 and NICE (2007) 4
